Our History

HISTORY / LOCATION

The Church of Christ, Legon, started congregating around the mid-80s, precisely in 1996, when members started worshipping in one of the lecture rooms of the Sociology Department. As characterized the first-century church, the Legon Church faced “persecution” from the authorities with occasional confrontation from the security outfit of the department. Prior to this physical persecution, the church was faced with the challenge of being nonfunctional whenever the university semester came to a close. The then leadership saw it as a hindrance to their evangelism work, as most of their new converts and prospects were mostly residents of the university’s staff village and adjoining suburbs. They likened it to the proverbial fetching of water with a basket. In the ambivalence, the leadership, with prior consultation and blessing from brethren, resolved to make the church a permanent church after seeking the wise counsel of the then minister and leadership of Madina Church of Christ. At the height of the wide consultations, this vision was actualized in the year 2000.

TRANSITIONAL MOMENT (FROM THE WILDERNES TO THE PROMISED LAND )

The end result of the broad Consultation and engagements from seasoned brethren and Alumni, it became imperative to move the church from the main University campus the University Staff Village School, where they started worshipping in one of the School’s classrooms. This was after well-organized public preaching at the university staff village.

With determination and focus, the church, at its 10th anniversary in the year 2010, launches the proposed construction of an ultramodern church complex.
